Harvard Alumni for Climate and the Environment (HACE) Book Club

HACE Book Club engage alumni in diverse fields for discussion of the many issues and people touched by climate change. The book group has been ongoing since June 2022, now in our third year! We alternate between non-fiction and fiction titles, chosen by vote.

If you are interested in meeting other alumni concerned with climate and the environment to chart a path for action, to build community and resilience, this is the place for you!

Orbital, by Samantha Harvey (2023)

Orbital dramatizes a day onboard the International Space Station (ISS), 250 miles above Earth, where six astronauts from five countries circle the Earth 16 times in numbing isolation. Harvey chose to write about space as a lived environment, not sci-fi or a future-forward drama. She writes about the Earth, about the natural world and our human relationship with it, and she said, "the sense of loss of innocence in the fact that we are systematically destroying it."
